Norfolk charity taking medical equipment to Ukraine calls for donations
It follows serious flooding in the Kherson region, which has forced thousands to flee their homes
A charity from Norfolk has told us they're taking medical equipment and water purification tablets to Ukraine later this week.
It follows serious flooding in the Kherson region and beyond- which has forced thousands to flee their homes, after a dam was destroyed in the country last week
"It's the difference between life and death"
Ian Odgers is from Dereham Ukraine Aid Centre:
"Every trip costs in the region of £7,000 to send the aid across. But then we need to fill the lorry, we don't want to send it over at that cost if it's not full. So we encourage local people to help us get this aid across to where it's needed.
"It's the difference between life and death, it's as simple as that. These people are in desperate need. Although we have built the bonds with Ukrainian people here, we see how it affects them. We have made some incredible contacts in Ukraine and we know what a difference we are making."
"Anything down to a pot noodle being donated helps us fill that lorry"
"We are looking for medical things from first aid kits and bandages up to unique medical items. We also need survival items like sleeping bags, tents and torches. Then there's non-perishable food- anything down to a pot noodle being donated helps us fill that lorry."
