Norfolk campaigner fears women's rights could be 'pushed back'
A 'Women's March' is taking place from 1pm today at 'The Walks' Park in King's Lynn
A campaigner from West Norfolk who's organised a march in the county today is telling us she's worried that women's rights will be pushed back in UK- unless more people take a stand against it.
It's aiming to raise awareness about the scale of violence against women and girls in the UK. Which official data from the National Police Chief's Council shows has increased by 37% since 2018.
"I seriously thought that by 2025 things would have improved"
Jo Rust is secretary of the King's Lynn and District Trade Union:
"When I first started out as a campaigner it was when my two daughters were much younger, and I seriously thought that by 2025 things would have improved for them, if not for me. But I just don't feel that anymore"
"We have many female school teachers who are experiencing 'toxic masculinity' within their classrooms because of influencers like Andrew Tate. We saw that when Donald Trump won the election, saying about women that it was 'our body, their choice'".
"We have to take a stand"
Organisers, Jo Rust and Amy Brooks jointly said "the situation for women and girls has become ever more dangerous.
"The murder and rape of women takes place by men of all occupations, ages and race. When a chat group has over 70,000 men on it swapping tips on how to rape and assault their partners, sisters, mothers and daughters and it goes by without furore, then we have to take a stand.
"While we know it's not all men, we don't know which ones it's not, as far as women are concerned, it could be any of them".
When and where is this?
The events starts at 1pm today at 'The Walks' Park in King's Lynn.
