Local businesses in Norfolk are calling for a freeze on alcohol duty freeze, and cost of living support in today's Autumn Statement.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will deliver the financial announcement today; it is expected to include tax cuts and a further squeeze on benefits.

Ahead of today's statement, the Chancellor said that now is a "turning point for the economy" and that "this is the moment" to go for growth.

He also said there is a need to "reform our welfare system" and the "priority" for the autumn statement is helping firms.

Small businesses in Norfolk however, have told us they have other priorities - including a freeze on the duty imposed on alcohol, which has already been raised this year.

This was in August when the Treasury introduced a 10% duty increase for spirits and an over 20% increase for 4 out of 5 wines of all wine sold in the UK.

Sarah Saunders - who runs Black Shuck Distillery in Norfolk - tells us:

"Craft brewers and distillers and everyone in the hospitality industry were hit really hard by the alcohol duty increase imposed on 1st August which drove prices to their limit.

"If we don't get some reprieve, the craft beers and spirits we come to expect in our local bars, delis and shops will become a thing of the past.

"Independent hotels, shops etc... will be gone from our high street - it won't be a particularly bright future."

Sarah Saunders also said she's like to see some help surrounding the cost of living:

"We are desperate to see some support for small businesses like ourselves in the today's Autumn Statement.

"We're seeing everyday that hospitality and retail sectors are really struggling.

"Many small businesses are run by families are are finding it difficult to turn a profit - many are now contemplating their futures.

"The cost of living crisis has had an impact on all of us."
