A boxing coach from Denton has been nominated for a national award on her success with young people.

Kerry Norfolk volunteers at Thrive Boxing in Norwich and is a finalist in the community coach of the year category.

The award recognises those who create opportunities for young people and change lives at grassroots level.

Kerry has been involved in amateur boxing for over 15 years now.

She joined England Boxing’s Women’s Coach Development Programme, which she credits with transforming her into the coach she is today.

Previous award winners here include Judy Murray and Aston Moore (Lifetime Achievement award), Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman (Great Coaching Moment of the Year).

As well as the coaches behind Lucy Bronze and Katarina Johnson-Thompson's path to success (Coaching Chain award).

The awards will be held on December 4th at The Queens Hotel in Leeds.

"It gives me purpose and keeps me well"

"There's a real transformation power in boxing. Fundamentally it starts with building relations, you have to be authentic, build trust and be relatable.

"I guess that I bring my own personal experiences in life to the boxing floor.

"My work is really diverse and can be complicated and stressful. That bit of boxing gives me a little avenue to put my work-life on pause and I just go and have fun.

"We have a really good retention rate at Thrive Boxing in Norwich and helping young people it gives me purpose and keeps me well".
