Proposals to set up a new 'country park' in Norfolk, including around half a million trees, are to be debated by councillors next week.

It would form part of the 1 Million Trees for Norfolk campaign, which aims to plant tens of thousand of trees across the county over five years.

250,000 of the trees are already in the group, but Norfolk County Council is now exploring ideas to ramp up the number of saplings last week.

A report to be considered next week would call on the council to by up around 330 hectares of land to turn into a new outdoor space for people across the county to enjoy.

500,000 trees would be planted on the site, which would also be linked in with local transport networks.

No location has been chosen as of yet.

Cllr James Bensly, of Norfolk County Council, said: “The exciting proposal to create a new country park fits well with our ongoing Greenways to Greenspaces project that’s opening up access to nature to many more residents and visitors to our beautiful county.

"I look forward to being able to consider the details and discuss this proposal with fellow councillors.”
