Mundesley beach reopened to public after raw sewage spill
Part of the beach had to be closed off earlier this month after issues at an Anglian Water pumping station
The beach at Mundesley has now fully reopened to the public several weeks after raw sewage leaked from a pumping station into the water.
People were urged to avoid the area close to the lifeboat station after reports of a problem at the Anglian Water facility on the seafront on March 19.
Both North Norfolk District Council and Anglian Water have since carried out testing on the water and sand on the beach, with several samples taken over the past few weeks.
They've both concluded there's no longer a risk to public health and the beach can now reopen.
Emily Capps, from North Norfolk District Council, said:
“We’re pleased that test results for Mundesley have come back to indicate it’s safe for our residents and visitors to access this part of Mundesley beach as it is an extremely popular beach.
"As a coastal authority, water quality along our beaches is of significant importance we continue to work with partner agencies to ensure it is as high as possible.
"We appreciate the cooperation of Anglian Water, the Environment Agency and the UK Health Security Agency in addressing this incident.”
