There's good news for Mrs Vicar, a seal rescued from Horsey Beach with a plastic ring cutting into her neck.

Rescuers from Friends of Horsey Seals had been trying to catch her for two and a half years, after spotting her with her unusual necklace, but were unsuccessful, until Easter Sunday.

They took her to the RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre, where vets there feared she may not survive her horrific injuries.

When she arrived, Alison Charles, manager at RSPCA East Winch, said:

"Sadly, we know the seal had the ring around her neck for over two years! I'm so grateful she's now been rescued and we can care for her. She is very quiet this morning and her wound is very sore with a bad smell but we are hopeful she will recover.

Over the past 10 weeks, she's undergone a range of treatments and received dedicated care from staff at the centre. After salt baths and lots of tasty mackerel, Mrs Vicar is now in the centre's outside swan pool and is putting on weight.

He neck wound is healing well, but she will always have a scar and her movement is now nearly back to normal.

It hoped, that if she continues to progress well, she should soon be considered for release back into the wild.
