Two more Norfolk MPs have set out their plans for the future - with pledges to run again for their seats at the next general election.

Norwich South MP Clive Lewis won the unanimous support of his local party in a ballot at the end of last year, allowing him to remain in place as Labour’s candidate.

Speaking this week, Mr Lewis said it was still his intention to fight the next election, which is expected to take place in 2024.

“It was humbling to get the universal backing of my local party,” he said.

“I’ve got a long track record of standing up for Norwich and its people and am looking forward to continuing as my constituency’s voice in Westminster.”

His Conservative counterpart in Norwich North, Chloe Smith, has said she will stand down at the next election.

Tory James Wild, who has represented North West Norfolk since 2019, has said he intends to again.

In the Commons, he has campaigned for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn – which has been called the country’s most dilapidated hospital – to be rebuilt by the government.

A decision from the Department of Health is expected imminently.

Elsewhere, the Waveney MP Peter Aldous will stand again for his Suffolk constituency, which covers Lowestoft and the surrounding villages.

The Boundary Commission has recommended that his constituency be re-drawn in 2023 however, so that he would lose Bungay and the area south of the town.

Bungay would form part of a new ‘Waveney Valley’ constituency, along with Halesworth, Harleston, Diss and Eye.
