A man has been handed a community sentence after stealing a boat on the Norfolk Broads last year.

Police were called to a marina on Barton Broad on September 7 last year finding The English Harbour, a boat which had been in the area for repairs, had been taken.

The vessel was valued at around £35,000.

Shortly afterwards a bag of items including the keys to the boat and documents related to the suspect were found at the bottom of a garden in Stalham.

The boat was later recovered in the same area.

65 year old Kevin William, from Munnings Road in Norwich, admitted to Theft and Taking Without Consent at Norwich Crown Court.

He was handed an 18-month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work, and a 6-month alcohol treatment order.
