Liam Manning is appointed new Head Coach of Norwich City
Manning returns to where he was born, after spells at MK Dons, Oxford United and Bristol City
Liam Manning is the new head-coach of Norwich City- following days of talks.
The 39 year-old moves from Championship rivals, Bristol City and replaces Johannes Hoff Thorup who was sacked in April.
He's signed an 4 year contract with 'The Canaries'.
Manning returns to where he was born, after spells at MK Dons, Oxford United and most recently taking "The Robins" to the championship playoff semi-finals.
He takes over from Johannes Hoff Thorup who was sacked in late April- after four losses in five games.
Jack Wilshere was in temporary charge of the club, for the last two games of the 2024/25 Championship season, but left the club in May.
The Norwich-born coach takes the role with a reputation of playing high pressing possession based football and developing young players.
"That's going to be a pretty tough ask"
Rob Sainty is chair of the club's official supporters group- 'The Canaries Trust':
"He's a guy who knows the league and has plenty of experience in it. He seems to be pragmatic and has done extremely well with Bristol City despite having very little in terms of financial backing.
"For him a good season is a minimum of play-offs. That's clear from the fact that Johannes Hoff Thorup was sacked for not taking the club there last season. That's going to be a pretty tough ask".
Speaking to canaries.co.uk, Manning said: “I’m privileged and honoured to have the opportunity to work for this fantastic football club. It’s a wonderful club with a big history and tradition.
“When I spoke to Ben and the owners about the opportunity here, I was really impressed by their vision and strategy for moving the club forward. I felt a clear alignment in how they want to play and develop players – that is something I was really excited to be a part of.
“It’s clear, there has already been a lot of valuable groundwork laid in recent seasons – it’s now important we build further on that and move the club forward.
“I’m really excited to meet the supporters and will do everything possible to give them a club they can be proud of.”
The Championship kicks off again on August the 8th.
Norwich take on Northampton Town next in a pre-season friendly on July 12th.
