The King’s Lynn War Memorial in Tower Gardens is 100 years old.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the milestone was marked virtually yesterday (26 January).

The war memorial was first dedicated and unveiled on 26 January 1921 by HRH Princess Mary. It commemorated the 570 men from the borough of King’s Lynn, who gave their lives in World War 1. On 15 October 2010, the memorial was rededicated, having had a new inscription, to recognise all those who have fallen during and since the Second World War.

The Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, Cllr Geoff Hipperson, has recorded a message to mark the occasion:

The Mayor’s Chaplain, Father Adrian Ling, has visited Tower Gardens to bless the memorial.

Luke Shackell, Archivist at King’s Lynn Borough Archives, has also created a video explaining the history behind the creation of the monument using materials held in the archives.
