Ahead of next week's return to school, Springwood High School in King's Lynn has carried out more than 1,500 COVID tests to reassure pupils and parents that staff and students will be returning to the safest, healthiest school environment possible.

Executive Headteacher, Andy Johnson, said:

"We have acted this early and decisively because after so much disruption, we want the return to school-based education to be as quick and smooth as possible, for everyone's benefit.

"Springwood is a large school so we grasped the opportunity to start early, and the response from everyone involved has been fantastic.

"Attendance for booked tests among pupils was 100 percent, with just two positive asymptomatic cases being identified, so those students will be in isolation, along with their families, for 10 days. In-school testing will be finished by Tuesday (9 March), the day after school resumes.

"I want to pay particular thanks to Nick Wills and Sally Ashfield who put together a clear training and implementation plan for our school leaders and support staff around the testing programme, and to all the volunteers who helped them put it into action so efficiently and effectively."

Pupils will need to continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines and also wear masks indoors except for those who are medically exempt.

The school will continue to remind pupils of the importance of hygiene routines and using hand sanitizer, and hopes that regular classes and education will be able to continue for the remainder of the academic year with minimal disruption.
