IKEA is set to return to Norwich for the first time in four years.

A new, smaller store will be opening in the former Homebase site in the Hall Road Retail Park later this year.

The Swedish giant previously had a store on Sweet Briar Road, but that closed back in July 2021.

IKEA says it will be a smaller shop than the huge warehouses some shoppers are used to, as part of its expansion plan to be closer to where customers live, work, socialise and shop.

It will, however, still feature IKEA's home furnishing inspiration, market hall and bespoke planning services, as well as a compact on-the-go food menu for customers to take away.

This means fans of the retailer's popular meatballs will still be able to get their hands on them.

Peter Jelkeby, IKEA UK and Ireland CEO, said: “We know many people want to shop with IKEA but in some instances are just too far away.

"That’s why we are strategically expanding our UK footprint, with the aim of showing up in convenient, accessible locations for our customers. Our new site in Norwich’s Hall Road Retail Park allows us to do exactly that – reaching communities who previously had to travel some distance to visit us.”

When the shop opens, there will be a range of up to 5,000 product lines on display, with up to 3,000 available for immediate purchase and the full range discoverable through digital tools.

There will also be click and collect services on offer, allowing customers to pick up online orders at a convenient time for them.

The opening date for IKEA Norwich will be announced in due course.
