Holt's only supermarket has reopened today, three years after it was destroyed by a fire.

The Budgens store burnt down in June 2020 after an electrical fault.

It's now reopened, and has been upgraded during the rebuild, with new self-checkout machines and eco-refill stations installed.

After the fire, a temporary Budgens was put in place in the car park next to the shop's original location - where it had been for 35 years.

Store owners, CT Baker say the construction of the new and improved store faced many set backs due to the impact of global events.

For example, the war in Ukraine impacted the availability of many raw materials, and the Suez Canal blockage also caused supply disruption.

In addition, the ongoing effect of COVID-19 extended material lead times, causing the project to take much longer than originally planned.

Store manager, Sandra Taylor-Meeds, commented: “We are thrilled to be opening our new grocery store and can’t wait to start serving the people of Holt in our new surroundings.

"This shop has been such an important asset for the residents here and the launch of this new building is sure to make a real difference.”
