Hundreds of homes in Great Yarmouth are set to benefit from a scheme to help warm their homes and cut bills.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council has been awarded £8 million for a scheme to help upgrade homes through free efficiency programmes.

Several of these upgrades will help to improve the energy efficiency of homes, helping to reduce both carbon emissions and reduce the cost of bills.

Councillors have accepted the funding, provided by the government, and will now begin to process the funding, helping to reach hundreds of homes over the next three years.

Of the £8 million, £5,498,108 has been allocated for the provision of insulation and low-carbon heating for those living in social and council houses.

As well as this, the remaining £2,638,910 has been given via the Warm Home Local Grant, helping to provide energy to homes who are on a low-income.

Speaking on the move, Great Yarmouth Borough Council member Graham Plant welcomed the grants, saying many will be able to reduce their bills during the cost of living crisis.

"This is a significant amount of finance and will enable us – working with our contracted partners – to make real changes to help people in social housing and private homes save substantial sums on their heating bills where they meet the eligibility criteria," he added.
