The ceremony took place this morning at Blackfriars Jewish Cemetery, on Blackfriars Road.

Attendees heard poems read, observed a two-minute silence, and the Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Councillor Adrian Thompson, lay a wreath on behalf of Yarmouth's residents.

He says it's important to remember those that were killed:

"We should all appreciate what's been given to us - freedom and choice. That didn't come easy, the price was paid for by these people and we should never forget that. We owe them a debt of gratitude."

The Mayor went on to says how important it is to educate future generations on what happened:

"It's very important that we teach the young to be tolerant across the board. We're all different in our ways - different religions, different sexual orientations and we must be tolerant. That's what makes us different and it's so important to teach youngsters this because anything like the Holocaust must never, ever happen again."

He was pleased with the turnout at the event:

"We spoke to some of the people who've been going to these services since 2001 - they started off in single figures and now they're up to 50 or 60 people which is lovely. People are very much aware, and certainly appreciate, the sacrifice that was made by people."
