A man has been jailed for more than two years for a series of break-ins in Great Yarmouth.

Sebastian Barrows, aged 41, of HMP Norwich, appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Wednesday 16 August 2023, having been previously charged with burglary and attempted burglary.

The charges relate to two incidents which occurred in September 2022.

On Monday 12 September, at around 11.30pm a group of men, including Barrows, were captured on CCTV outside of a shop on St Peter’s Road, Great Yarmouth.

They used a crowbar to try and break into the premises but were unsuccessful.

On Tuesday 13 September, Barrows gained access to a residential property late at night in Great Yarmouth.

He proceeded to steal hundreds of pounds worth of belongings including a television, mobile phone, jewellery and bank cards whilst a family were sleeping upstairs.

CCTV enquiries identified Barrows entering the property and removing the items before leaving towards the town centre with the stolen items in hand.

He then used the stolen bank cards to withdraw large sums of money and purchase items in a local bar.

He was investigated further by staff from Norfolk’s Operation Converter team and admitted to four other offences which were taken into account by the court.

These were shoplifting offences which dated back to March 2021.

On 16 August 2023 Barrows was sentenced to two years and two months in prison.

Investigating officer, PC Jodie Jennings said: “Burglary is an incredibly personal crime which leaves victims feeling vulnerable in their own home which is a place that everyone has a right to feel safe.

“I hope that the victims involved in their case receive some level of comfort knowing that the person who has caused them such hurt is now behind bars.”

Duncan Etchells of Operation Converter said: “This is another successful case for the Op Converter team.

“I hope that this provides Barrows with a fresh start once he completes his sentence. Op Converter provides offenders with the opportunity to admit to their crimes and to leave prison with a clean slate.

“It also provides victims with peace of mind that the person responsible for their crime has been caught, giving them the justice they deserve.”
