A section of cliffside at Gorleston has been cordoned off by the local coastguard, after a group of young people dug a 'den' into the sandy cliffside.

It happened over the Bank Holiday Weekend, with pictures showing two hollows cut into the sand.

In a statement, HM Coastguard Gorleston said: "Digging into the sand cliffs around our coast is extremely dangerous and can result in serious injury or death should they collapse."

The 'den' comprises of two holes dug deep into the cliffside

"The dangers are not always obvious to everyone so if you see someone digging into the cliffs ask them to stop and report it to the coastguard."

The cliffs along the Norfolk coast, which are made of loose sand, are highly susceptible to landslides.

Cliff collapses at nearby Hemsby led to several homes being destroyed earlier this year.
