Work has started to pull down a former hotel in Sheringham.

The Shannocks is being demolished ready to be re-developed into a mixed of retail and residential buildings, with demolition work expected to be finished by 1 June.

From Monday (26 April) the adjacent council-owned Chequers car park will be closed for use as part of the demolition works, but is due to re-open after 1 June.

North Norfolk District Council Chief Executive, Steve Blatch, said:

"We are pleased that work is now progressing to demolish the derelict Shannocks Hotel paving the way for its replacement with an exciting new development which will enhance this key seafront location in Sheringham."

The site is the subject of a Compulsory Purchase Order by North Norfolk District Council, which was confirmed by the Secretary of State earlier this month.
