A former Norfolk Police officer's been jailed for 22 months - over a relationship he had with a vulnerable woman in 2011.

Forbes Scott, 58 and from Drayton, near Norwich was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court today, (Monday 13 January 2025).

Scott had previously pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office.

The investigation into the 58 year-old, who retired from the constabulary in October 2020, started in March 2023 when information came to light about an inappropriate sexual relationship he’d had with a woman he met during the course of his duties as a family liaison officer.

The court heard Scott abused his position, offering the woman his personal mobile number, putting kisses in texts when making contact and sending explicit photographs of himself.

Following enquiries, Scott was arrested in September 2023 on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and questioned at Aylsham Police Investigation Centre before later being charged with the offence.

The victim, through a personal statement read in court, said: “I was taken advantage of when I was at my lowest point, something I will never get over.”

"There is no place for this shameful behaviour in policing"

Chief Constable Paul Sanford said: “Police officers hold a position of trust and sadly in this case that trust has been abused for personal gratification.

"The victim in this case was exceptionally vulnerable and instead of providing help and support and being the professional the public expect, Scott used his role to form an inappropriate relationship, taking advantage of that vulnerability.

“There is no place for this shameful behaviour in policing and I hope the investigation and today’s sentencing offers reassurance we will be proactive and deal with offences, even when incidents may have happened several years ago.”
