EXCLUSIVE: data shows record number of fatal stabbings in Norfolk last year
That's despite figures showing, in 2024, Norfolk Police actually recorded the lowest amount of knife crime in the county overall since 2016
We can exclusively reveal that a record number of fatal stabbings took place in Norfolk last year.
Figures from our county's police force show that five people were killed with a knife.
This means that over a quarter of these offences in Norfolk in the last NINE years, took place in 2024.
That's despite figures showing, in 2024, Norfolk Police actually recorded the lowest amount of knife crime in the county overall since 2016.
"Unfortunately we've buried it under the sand for quite a while"
Emma Dix's son Joe was killed in 2022 after being stabbed seven times:
"I don't think we've really tackled the root cause of why people are carrying and using knives, particularly in Norfolk. Unfortunately we've buried it under the sand for quite a while.
"Some of it's going to be related to mental health, exploitation and grooming as well.
"The figures just show that people are getting more brutal, I think. Is it that the count has actually gone down or is it that they are not being recorded?
"We know that with a lot of incidents caused through county-lines, people won't go to the Police due to their fear of repercussions."
"We have to keep on tackling this and addressing it"
Sarah Taylor is Norfolk's Police and Crime Commissioner:
"A small number of people are losing their lives as a result of this, every year. Many more are also getting injured through this as well.
"We have to keep on tackling this and addressing it. That means doing this both reactively but looking to prevent it more as well.
"It is obviously our intent and hope to reduce the number of fatal stabbings . We would love there to be none, but sadly one or two happen most years and that's why we're tackling this.
"Overall, we do have a trend of reducing knife crime and I think that is testament to work that is happening."
