Election: Results of the local elections in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire

Results of the local elections for Norfolk and Cambridgeshire in May 2021.

Residents in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire headed to the polls on Thursday 6th May to vote in England's local elections.

In Norfolk and Cambridgeshire residents had the chance to vote for their next County Councillors and a Police and Crime Commissioner.

An election for the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough was also held.

Council by-elections were also held in some areas including: North Norfolk and Fenland.

Most votes in the elections are due to be counted over Friday 7th May and Saturday 8th May, with declarations due shortly after counting finishes.

Norfolk County Council

All 84 seats were up for election at the polls on Thursday.

Going into this election the Conservatives had a majority, holding 54 of the total seats available.

The Conservative's managed to maintain that overall control, gaining an extra four seats in total.

Cambridgeshire County Council

All 61 seats were up for election at the polls on Thursday.

Going into this election the Conservatives had a majority, holding 36 of the total seats available.

It ended up as a hung council for Cambridgeshire after the Conservatives failed to gain more than half the seats, but do still have a majority.

The Conservatives won 28 seats, the Liberal Democrat have 20, Labour have nine, two are Independents and two for the St Neots Independent Group.

Lincolnshire County Council

All 70 seats in Lincolnshire were up for grabs on Thursday.

Conservatives secured an overall majority.

The Suttons - Conservative

Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner

A new Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk was also up grabs this year.

The incumbent, Lorne Green, chose not to stand for re-election this time around.

The Conservatives retained the position though, with Giles Orpen-Smellie replacing Mr Green.

Here are the final results:

Giles Orpen-Smellie (Conservative) - 119,994

Michael Rosen (Labour) - 69,552

The other candidates, who didn't make it to the second round of voting, were: John Crofts (Lib Dem), David Moreland (Independent), Martin Schmierer (Green)

Volunteers have been celebrating a long day and night of counting:

Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner

People in Cambridgeshire were also able to vote for a Police and Crime Commissioner.

The candidates were: Nicky Massey (Labour), Sue Morris (Reform UK), Rupert Moss-Eccardt (Liberal Democrats), and Darryl Preston (Conservative).

The Conservatives retained the seat with Darryl Preston being declared the next Police and Crime Commissioner.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor

Residents were also able to choose their next Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The Conservatives failed to hold on to the position with the candidate from the Labour and Co-Operative Party clinching it.

Here's the final results:

Nik Johnson (Labour & Co-Operative Party) - 113,994

James Palmer (The Conservative Party) - 108,195

Lib Dem candidate, Aidan Va De Weye was knocked out in the first round of counting.

Council by-elections

There were also a number of council by-elections held on the 6th May to fill vacant positions in a number of areas.

In North Norfolk, vacant seats were available in Holt and Coastal, those both went Conservative.

While in Fenland, there were by-elections for Lattersey and Octavia Hill wards.
