A group representing businesses across the East of England is urging the new Prime Minister to kick start growth across the region.

The Eastern Powerhouse are welcoming the new Labour Government, but say they need to see more investment put into the East of England.

The region has traditionally been a heartland for the Conservatives, but following Labour's landslide win in the General Election, it now looks very different.

New MP's have been elected across the East, with many areas falling to Labour for the first time ever.

The Eastern Powerhouse are now calling on the brand new Government to follow through with their 'Change' manifesto.

The groups executive director Steven Lynch told us: " In many ways the East is a fantastic place to live and to work, but in many ways it's getting left behind."

"We need a new contract between the public and the private sector, it's desperately needed."

"You've got a fresh new grouping of MP's who want to deliver, and they want to deliver for the region and I think that's the opportunity to bring people together because the East has not been working together, it's been working as a patchwork, so it's really difficult to get major infrastructure projects going."

"People and businesses right across the East want to kick start a growth agenda, the Labour Government now needs to inject confidence back into the country and confidence back into the economy"

"We need to get our country to thrive again, there are lots of areas that really have been left behind."
