A man's has been jailed for seven years for drug dealing and dangerous driving in Norfolk - after failing to stop for police.

34 year-old Michael Katindi, of Foulden Road, London, appeared at Norwich Crown Court for sentencing on Monday 1st July after previously being found guilty of dangerous driving and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

He was sentenced to seven years in prison for possession with intent to supply and one year for dangerous driving, to be served concurrently.

He was also disqualified from driving for four and a half years.

What happened?

On 11 May 2022, officers from Moonshot (ANPR team) received intelligence relating to a Grey Range Rover being driven by Michael Katindi.

Officers signalled for the Range Rover to pull over on Drayton Road shortly before midday, but Katindi failed to stop for police and fled the scene. The car’s speed was well in excess of the 30mph limit, mounted a kerb and narrowly avoided a collision with other vehicles when driving the wrong way round a roundabout.

At this point, officers stopped following the vehicle due to safety concerns.

The car was found abandoned in Rye Avenue a short while later, with a pair of flip flops were found nearby. Searches continued on foot and Katindi was found hiding in an alleyway off Gowing Court with no shoes on. He was arrested and taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He was released on bail and later charged.

CCTV later showed Katindi throwing a package into a garden while running from the car. This was found to be Crack Cocaine.

Sgt Tim Russell of Norfolk Police’s Moonshot team, said: “Katindi made concerted efforts to evade police attention, driving dangerously in a built-up area.

“The live time enquiries, leading to the discovery of the Class A drugs, show the efforts officers put in to tackle drug dealing in Norfolk. Today’s sentencing shows those responsible will be dealt with robustly by both Norfolk Constabulary and the courts.”
