A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a woman in Wisbech 11 years ago.

David Newton, who's from Magazine Close in the town, was arrested last month and appeared in Cambridge Crown Court accused of murdering Una Crown.

Newton, 69, returned to the same court for a plea hearing today (Thursday).

Mrs Crown was found in a pool of blood and with her clothing burnt in her bungalow on Magazine Lane, Wisbech in 2013.

The 86-year-old's death was initially treated as an accident, before a murder investigation was launched days later.

Police say that a post-mortem examination showed Mrs Crown died from stab wounds to her neck and chest.

A provisional trial date of January 13, 2025 had been set, with a time estimate of four weeks.
