Norwich man jailed for dangerous driving
He's also been banned from driving for six years
A man from Norwich has been jailed for dangerous driving, after failing to stop for police.
26 year-old Tyler Tomkinson, of Read Court, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on 27 June having pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.
He was sentenced to 40 weeks in prison and banned from driving for six years.
He was also ordered to complete an extended driving test.
What happened?
The sentencing comes after an incident on the afternoon of Thursday 13 April 2023 when a silver VW Touareg, being driven by Tomkinson, caught the eye of police on St Clements Hill, Norwich.
Officers followed Tomkinson for a short whilst routine checks were conducted which found that the vehicle was uninsured.
They illuminated their blue lights and Tomkinson failed to respond.
Instead, he chose to continue driving to evade police.
Officers lost sight of the VW and continued to search the area.
Tomkinson had abandoned his vehicle a short distance away from his address and began to walk towards his home.
He was spotted by the officers a short while later and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.
He was taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he was released on bail and later charged.
