Cromer homeowner told "tough luck" as council refuses to let them cut down tree blocking driveway
Occupants of the home won't be able to cut back a tree - which they say is blocking their drive
Occupants of a house in Cromer who are struggling to park because a tree covers part of their driveway have been told “tough luck” by councillors.
Members of North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) have told the inhabitants of a flat on St Mary’s Court, to the rear of The Poplars, that a tree protection order (TPO) will be staying in place.
The occupants had tried to remove the TPO, which stops the cutting down, trimming or damage of a tree without written consent.
An NNDC officer said that removing the tree and a section of wall would make it easier to get in and out when parking but that it “contributes positively” to the area.
Gerard Mancini-Boyle, a councillor, said he did not see the problem with the tree, which is off to one side.
He said: “The tree was there first anyway. So keep the tree, tough luck. Get on with it.”
Tim Adams, the local ward councillor, agreed with the officer, arguing a lot of trees have already been removed from the area over the last 10 years, “which has had a negative impact on the street scene.”
The TPO was approved.
