Car meets could be banned in Norwich in crackdown on noise and dangerous driving
The council is looking at bringing in fines for people who attend car meets in the city
Car meets, or events where people meet up in public places to show off their vehicles, could be effectively banned in Norwich under new plans.
Norwich City Council is looking at bringing in a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) covering the entire city, which mean people taking part in car meets could face a fine.
It's after concerns were raised about the events causing noise and disruption on some city streets.
There are also fears of pedestrians or other drivers getting hurt, with some drivers racing or performing stunts.
If the PSPO were to be introduced signage would be placed at hotspots around the city in an effort to deter further car meets.
Councillor Beth Jones, of Norwich City Council, said: “Vehicle nuisance has become a growing issue for the city, and we have worked closely with partners to address and monitor the situation.
“This citywide consultation invites residents to not only provide feedback on our proposals but ask questions and highlight their own experience with any of the issues involved.”
