Call for action to tackle Covid-19 in Fenland
Numbers are still too high.
More needs to be done to lower coronavirus rates in Fenland.
We're being warned infection rates here, remain above the national average.
Dr Liz Robin, Director of Public Health for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, wants action to be taken now.
She said:
"I would like to start by saying a big thank you to everyone across Fenland who has worked really hard and given up so much to reduce the spread of coronavirus in the district.
"Your efforts have kept many people safe and ensured that our health services have been able to help not just those who have been affected by Covid, but others who are living with other health conditions.
"However, worryingly, Fenland's coronavirus infection rate is currently above the national average with around 300-400 cases per 100,000 people. We are continuing to see a high number of our older and potentially more vulnerable residents with the infection, as well as high transmission rates amongst working age people and in households.
"So, it is vital that we all take action now to reduce the number of people catching the virus.
"I know it's hard but please, follow the lockdown rules. Stay at home as much as possible and only go out for essential reasons. When you do have to go out and may come into contact with people you don't live with, keep two metres away from them, avoid crowded or poorly ventilated areas, wash or sanitise your hands regularly and wear a face covering where this is required.
"If you work in an essential industry in Fenland please try to avoid car-sharing to get to work, school or the shops. If you must car-share, try and do this with the same people or person each time, wear a face covering, have windows open and wash or sanitise your hands when you enter and exit the vehicle. Please think about activities outside of work and how these may increase the risk of taking the virus into your workplace or your home.
"We've been successful before at reducing rates of coronavirus in Fenland and by doing the right thing now we can do this again."
