Businesses in King's Lynn and West Norfolk are going to be given extra support and information on how to remain Covid-secure as they begin to think about reopening over the coming months.

For six weeks from Monday 1st March, the Borough Council and HSE will be contacting businesses to understand more about how they're operating and provide help on what measures they might need to adopt to protect staff, customers and visitors.

Councillor Stuart Dark MBE, who's the Portfolio Holder for Environment Services and Public Protection, said: "Businesses across west Norfolk have made huge efforts to adapt their services and protect the public over the last year and we are hugely grateful to them all for everything that they have done.

"We know that this has been a very difficult time for businesses, and we are here to support them, helping them to become Covid-secure as they get ready to reopen.

"Our team is on hand to provide advice and guidance, and support businesses to implement the Covid-safe measures that will allow them to operate safely."

Contact with businesses will be made by telephone initially to discuss measures being put in place and what additional measures may need to be taken.

Any business could be contacted but those with high footfall, such as pharmacies, convenience stores, post offices, and retail shops, will be prioritised.

Whilst the council is doing this to offer additional support, it says that any persistent, deliberate or serious deficiencies would be escalated as necessary.

Councillor Dark commented: "This has been such a challenging time for businesses and as we can now look forward to reopening, we want to support local companies to become Covid-secure, so that they can resume operating safely, securely, and with confidence."
