Landmarks across West Norfolk will be lit up tonight to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week.

King's Lynn Town Hall, The Alive Corn Exchange and the Queen Elizabeth will be lit up in blue and pink from dusk tonight.

Baby Loss Awareness Week started on October 9 and aims to get people talking about losing a child and make it less of a taboo topic.

And the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk will be joining in a wave of light, which will see landmarks lit up around the country to shine a light on the issue.

Councillor Josie Ratcliffe, who was contacted by a local resident, said:

"I believe it's important to raise awareness and break the taboo of baby loss and I'm delighted that the Borough Council and Alive West Norfolk are supporting this request."

Jade Blaney, who's an ambassador to charity CRADLE, lost a baby herself last year, and now wants to do what she can to support other mothers.

She said:

"I knew instantly that I wanted to put my pain to purpose and be involved in supporting other women through this heartbreak and help to break the taboo surrounding baby loss.

"Because there's such a taboo around baby loss, I just feel that this week, in particular, just to talk about all our experiences around baby loss. We actually like talking about our babies because they obviously mean a lot to us, and to hear people talking about them and not being afraid, just comforts us.

"The support is amazing. I'm just so happy that my local town is taking part and it's in walking distance for me, so I can walk down and have a look and reflect, which will be lovely."

CRADLE is a registered early pregnancy loss charity and is part of the Baby Loss Awareness Alliance. CRADLE works with the NHS to support women and their partners before, during or following pregnancy loss.
