A market town’s gym-goers look set to benefit from a major expansion under plans going before councillors next week.

Broadland District Council’s planning officials are recommending the £2.6m expansion of Attleborough Sports Hall be given the green light.

The hall is connected to the adjacent Attleborough Academy and is exclusively used by it during school hours.

The planned improvements include:

- A new fitness suite with a combination of cardiovascular exercise machines and free weights

- Multi-functional studio space for fitness classes and small gatherings

- Spin room for indoor cycling classes

- Changing and reception area will be refurbished and modernised

A report to councillors said: “The proposed Leisure Centre project seeks to address the growing demand for Sports and Leisure facilities in Attleborough, by providing a modern, accessible, and inclusive venue and aims to foster a healthy and active lifestyle among residents of all ages.

“This facility will be a valuable asset, accommodating various sports activities, fitness programs, community events, and social gatherings.”

Councillors will be asked to determine the application at a meeting next Tuesday.
