Anglian Water wants more apprentices
They're launching 38 new apprenticeships
Anglian Water is launching 38 new apprenticeship positions encouraging people to consider working within the utilities industry. This is an ideal way to provide the perfect route for budding engineers into this vital area of work.
The water company has continued to employ new recruits throughout the pandemic, successfully retaining all staff without needing to make use of the government's furlough scheme.
Gemma Betney, Head of Recruitment for Anglian Water, said:
"Never before has access to water been so important for health and hygiene. As key workers we play a vital role in keeping taps running, toilets flushing and drains draining during the pandemic. Applying for an apprenticeship with Anglian Water is a great option for anyone considering their next move."
The water company, which has a big requirement for science and engineering skills in its workforce, offers apprentices an opportunity to work and learn simultaneously in operational, maintenance and engineering roles across the region, guaranteeing a permanent role at the end of the course, along with a nationally recognised qualification.
Courses can last anywhere between 18 months and four years, depending on the type of role, and is often a mixture of classroom and practical hands-on learning supporting the team, across the region.
Lucy Laking, one of Anglian Water's current apprentices, said:
"I've been undertaking my apprenticeship with Anglian since leaving school, and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. It's a great challenge but you get so much out of it and it's great to earn while you're learning.
"My role as an Operational Technology Field Apprentice allows me to support and monitor the technology that control our operational processes to ensure they run as smoothly as possible. No two days are the same with Anglian, and my job is stimulating and challenging which gives great variety in what I do from day-to-day. All you need is a good attitude and a willingness to learn and you'll be successful."
The latest batch of apprenticeship opportunities will be open for applications until Sunday 31st January, with successful applicants set to start the role in August and September 2021.
Gemma continued:
"Apprentices are such an important part of our business which is why we continue to invest a lot in their training and development to help them gain valuable and practical skills, as well as helping them to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
"Around a third of Anglian Water's workforce will retire in the next decade and we want to recruit the budding engineers and technicians from the next generation and give them the right skills and experience to join our business. We're delighted to be fortunate enough to continue employing new members of staff, as well as retaining our current workforce, throughout the difficult circumstances of the past 12 months."
To provide extra support to those that may be considering applying, Anglian's recruitment experts Jess and Emma are on hand to help with any queries on the Live Chat section of the Anglian Water careers website every Thursday night in January between 4pm - 8pm.
