A47 to be dualled between Blofield and North Burlingham
It's in a bid to make the major route to the east of Norwich safer
A section of the A47 in Broadland is set to be turned into a dual carriageway after the government approved plans.
The £90m project is intended to improve safety along a well known accident blackspot used by around 30,000 vehicles every day.
It has one of the highest recorded rates for crashes along an A road in the UK.
National Highways claimed the improvements will prevent almost 200 accidents and save 29 lives over a period of 60 years.
A 1.6 mile section of the road will be replaced with a dual carriageway, with the existing route to be downgraded to a 'local road' used by significantly less traffic.
It's hoped the old road will also become a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists.
Two new junctions with bridges will be built to connect the B1140 up to the new road and to connect Blofield with North Burlingham.
The new road will be built parallel and within 70 metres of the old A47, mostly across open farmland.
Work is set to begin in October.
The project is just one three sections of the A47 slated for improvements.
National Highways also wants improvements at the A47/A11 junction at Thickthorn, the A141 roundabout at Guyhirn and between North Tuddenham and Easton.
