The Budgen Motors W100 tournament, the biggest indoor women’s tennis event in the UK since the 1990's, will be held at The Shrewsbury Club between October 30th and November 6th.

British stars Harriet Dart and Katie Boulter will all be playing against some top international players, including Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, currently 45th in the world.

The event is also set to feature Marketa Vondrousova, who won a silver medal for the Czech Republic at the Olympics in Tokyo last year.

Karolina Muchova, another Czech star, is also competing. She reached the quarter finals at Wimbledon in both 2019 and 2021.

Dave Courteen, the managing director of the Shrewsbury club, says: "I think the great thing about the event is that it's going to bring a quality of player that we have never seen playing this locally before."

Mr Courteen also hopes that by having this event in Shropshire, it will encourage more youngsters to get into the sport: "We think being inspired by watching high quality tennis is a really great way of getting people to play the game which is a clear objective of ours."

"Tennis is also great for your mental and physical health," he said.

There is also the chance for local children to get involved in the tournament and be part of the ball crew.

The ball crew training

Tennis coach Simon Haddleton who has been coaching the ball crew tells us the children are "extremely excited" to be part of the event and to see some of their idols play.
