Worcester Warriors: fans to hear Atlas' plans for future of the club
A meeting is happening today at Sixways.
After months of uncertainty and speculation, Worcester Warriors supporters will find out today what the future holds for their club.
Around 550 fans will attend a meeting at Sixways this lunchtime to hear more on what owners - the Atlas Group - plan to do, after announcing proposals to rebrand the club.
Earlier this week, the Rugby Football Union confirmed Warriors will not play in the Championship next season.
The RFU said in a statement that Atlas withdrew their application for a place.
CEO of the RFU, Bill Sweeney said: “We appreciate that the disappointment felt by Worcester Warriors staff, players and fans following the Atlas decision will be very significant.
“For a club to continue following insolvency, it is imperative that it has a sustainable and funded business plan, that there is transparency about ownership and funding structures, and that rugby creditors are paid."
Atlas duo Jim O'Toole and James Sandford are expected to explain what will happen next, and whether or not rugby will return to Sixways.
Today's event will also allow supporters to voice their concerns, following a backlash to the proposals to ditch the Worcester Warriors brand and form 'Sixways Rugby' with Stourbridge RFC.
Free Radio will be at the meeting and we'll bring you the latest as we get it.
