There are concerns hundreds of families across the Black Country and Shropshire won't be able to protect themselves this summer due to the high costs of suncream.

A new study has found more than half of people think SPF products are too expensive, with calls for the government to axe VAT on them.

It's as sales are set to surge with the warm and sunny weather on the way.

Denise Robins owns a Wolverhampton based community shop, which helps people struggling to get by with food and essential items.

She said: "We've been hunting around after some decent suncream at a reasonable price and it's getting a lot more difficult.

"It's the 20 percent VAT on top and we don't want to end up in the situation that people aren't using it.

"To take that 20 percent VAT off on a temporary basis will make a lot of difference to items on the shelves and suncream really is essential."

Campaigners want the 20 percent VAT call added to the existing support already introduced to help with high inflation.
