The Mayor of the West Midlands is once again calling for Government support for the region's hospitality sector.

Andy Street's written a letter to the Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

It's as the tier restrictions return on Wednesday (2nd December), with the West Midlands Metropolitan County under the toughest rules.

Pubs and restaurants will be limited to takeaways or delivery services and many have no choice but to stay closed until the restrictions are lifted.

In his letter, Andy Street says around 80% of venues will be put in a dangerous position over the next few months.

He's warning without support, many businesses will permanently shut down.

Mr Street's suggested things like increasing the value of grant support and a cut in VAT.

Speaking to Free Radio, Andy Street said "The Chancellor has already given very good support to hospitality when we moved into tier 2.

"So once again, I'm optimistic he'll respond positively to this request."

MPs are voting today (1st December) on the coronavirus tier system.

Despite some Conservative backbenchers threatening to vote against the Government, the restrictions are expected to be approved.

The first review of the tiers will take place on December 16th.
