West Midlands emergency services called to help Nottinghamshire floods
Teams from West Midlands Fire Service were drafted in to help
West Midland Fire Service has been drafted in to help with flood evacuations in neighbouring Nottinghamshire.
A specialist water rescue team from the Fire Service was deployed to the area on Sunday (January 7th) in order to help with crews tackling the drainage of water.
The team, made up of six members of the service's Technical Research Unit helped officers in the Collingham area in the east of the county to deliver aid to those affected by the floods.
Crews in the Newark area of the region have been badly hit by floods as rain continues to cause problems for emergency workers across the country.
In Newark-on-Trent, homes have been cut off from power, leaving many stranded and seeking refuge as the flood continues to damage their properties.
Across Nottinghamshire, there has been immense flooding, with neighbouring Lincolnshire also being particularly affected.
Speaking about the collaboration, watch manager at Bickenhill Technical Rescue Station Mike Howard said they were trying to reach as many people as possible.
"We are currently working alongside Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue colleagues, and have today been delivering essential food aid to people who have been isolated in their properties as a result of flooding caused by the River Trent," he said.
He added: “We have also delivered pet supplies and checked on the welfare of several horses at one site after a stable area was flooded.”
West Midlands Fire Service added that they would continue to help those affected by the poor weather and provide supplies and support to those who need it during the course of the day.
