Aerial footage to be streamed to emergency services across West Midlands
The scheme is part of a multi-service response to major incidents
Ambulance services in the West Midlands will be given aerial footage of major incidents in real time.
The Airborne Data Link would help live stream to paramedics with real time information about what has been taking place at the scene.
The scheme is part of a multi-agency response initiative between West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Midlands Fire Service, with extra help provided by West Midlands Police.
Police helicopters and airplanes will also be providing the footage to emergency services en route.
Speaking about the new investment in technology, Tactical Incident Commander, Cameron McVittie, said it would help when a large-scale incident could takes place in the future.
“Learning from incidents is at the forefront of our command development as an organisation, and the addition of the airborne data link into our command toolbox will be a fantastic asset to ensure that as a multi-agency command team, we can make the best decisions to keep our patients and staff safe at incidents such as water rescue, significant fires or marauding terrorist attacks. Not to mention, to create further synergy between ourselves and our JESIP partners on the scene of incidents," he said.
“As an organisation that looks to promote digital integration and enhanced capabilities, we look forward to utilising our new devices alongside our multi-agency partners. Particularly with significant events coming up such as the Commonwealth Games in the region this summer.”
