People in Birmingham are being urged to have their say and fight to keep their libraries going.

Birmingham Loves Libraries aims to better the chances of keeping more open in the city after council budget cuts suggested most could be shut down.

It comes after Birmingham City Council opened a public consultation on 4 April for people to have their say on proposed changes to local library services. This is live until July.

Local campaigners are urging others to have their say in the council's public consultation to save as many as possible.

Acocks Green campaigner Joe Simpson's told us they're making good progress so far and that locals should use it as incentive to keep fighting.

"I really urge people to get in touch with their councillors because I think what we've seen is that the campaigning and the organising that we've done has made a difference and has really shifted the debate around libraries and moved the council on this and there's really no reason why we can't move them further.

"People in Birmingham need to know that there absolutely is everything to play for here. The more that we stand up and make our voices heard, the more that we get out and campaign on these issues, we will shift the agenda away from these really damaging cuts to our local services."
