Two dead in Bloxwich house fire

At approximately 2.15am on Monday 3 April, Emergency services responded to a house fire on Croxdene Avenue, Bloxwich.

Three fire engines, crewed by 15 firefighters from Walsall, Bloxwich and Willenhall fire stations attended a severe fire in a two-storey house. The first arrived within five minutes of being mobilised.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and extinguished the fire using hose reels.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We are saddened to confirm that, despite the best efforts of fire and ambulance crews at the scene, two people rescued from the building were confirmed to have died at the scene. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.

"Our Fire Investigation Team are working to establish the cause of the fire."

A West Midlands Ambulance Spokesperson said: "Upon arrival, crews discovered two patients, a man and a woman.

"The man was assessed and was in a critical condition. He received advanced life support from ambulance staff at the scene.

“Unfortunately, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

"The woman was in a critical condition. Sadly, it became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed deceased at the scene."
