The Turner Prize exhibition is open today from 29 September - 12 January 2022 for visitors to Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.

The public will have the opportunity to see the nominees and winners of the most renowned award in visual arts.

The exhibition will showcase pieces of art which tackle pressing issues in society, and will feature work from five artist collectives who are up for the Turner Prize.

The nominated collectives all in with a chance of winning are:

  • Array Collective
  • Black Obsidian Sound System
  • Cooking Sections
  • Gentle/Radical
  • Project Art Works

The winner of the Turner Prize 2021 will be announced on 1 December 2021 at a Ceremony in Coventry Cathedral.

The winning collective will receive a cash award of £25,000, while the four other nominees will also be given £10,000 each.

The Turner Prize being held at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is part of Coventry's successful bid for UK City Of Culture, which it was awarded in 2017 after competing against 11 other cities.

Francis Nielsen, Cultural & Creative Director of Culture Coventry, said:

“Reflecting a national moment of togetherness, empathy and collectivism has been a key ambition in the development and realisation of the Turner Prize 2021.

The artists and curatorial team have produced a truly exceptional exhibition and we are incredibly excited to welcome visitors to the Herbert to see it as part of UK City of Culture 2021.”
