Stratford Town Football Club will pay their respects today to former player Cody Fisher, who was fatally stabbed at a nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

The 23-year-old will be remembered as a minute silence is held before kick-off against Kings Langley at the Arden Garages Stadium.

Before that, a Guard of Honour will be held by children from St Gregorys School, where Cody coached. Pupils will take the framed No 23 shirt, which has been retired from the squad, into the centre circle for the silence.

The number 23 shirt has been retired by Stratford Town as a mark of respect to Cody

In a further mark of respect, on the 23rd minute of the match, the referee will stop play for a minute applause.

Speaking last week, the club's chairman Jed McCrory said a memorial fund would also be set up: "We will be setting up a Cody Fisher Community Fund associated to our academy.

"This fund will be used for young adults to get a coaching license to be able to coach kids in schools like Cody did.

"Stratford Town has been overwhelmed with the support from all the non-league clubs that have contacted the club and I would like to thank the whole football fraternity for showing what football is about, up and down the country.

"We applaud them and thank them for their support in such a tragic time for everyone."

Mr Fisher was attacked whilst on a night out with friends, some teammates, on Boxing Day.

He was approached by a group of people and stabbed on the dance floor at Crane nightclub in Digbeth.

The venue had its licence suspended for 28 days after accusations by police that there had been "serious management failings" on the night of the incident.

Two suspects charged with murder have been told they will stand trial in July.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, both from Birmingham were remanded into custody following a court hearing on Wednesday (Jan 4).

Adjourning the case, Judge Farrer told Gordon and Carpenter: "Would you both stand please.

"You will next be before this court on March 17 when the charges will be put to you and you will be required to respond to them.

"The court will then make further directions. I fix your trial for July 3 this year. There is no application for bail and you are therefore both remanded in custody."
