Tributes will be paid to footballer Cody Fisher ahead of a memorial match between two of his former clubs this evening (February 28).

The 23-year-old was stabbed to death at Crane nightclub in Digbeth, Birmingham on Boxing Day last year.

Bromsgrove Sporting host Stratford Town at the Victoria Ground tonight, a match which is being dedicated to the talented left-back who played for both sides during his career.

Cody was also previously part of the Blues Academy and went on to make senior appearances for Stourbridge FC.

During the match, Bromsgrove Sporting players will wear a special memorial kit which the club said will then be auctioned off to raise money for Cody's family and their charity of choice.

Mike Burke, chairman of Bromsgrove Sporting FC said: "This match is a chance for us as a club to show our respects to Cody.

"The players, they're professionals obviously, but asking them to play a match and be competitive, because league matches are important for both teams, but at the same time to be respectful for Cody is tricky. But they'll do it for Cody.

"There'll be a minute silence before kick off and applause in the 23rd minute for his age. We're trying to raise as much money as we can as well, for Cody's charities."

Last month, Stratford Town dedicated their match against Kings Langley - the first game the team played following Cody's tragic death - to the 23-year-old.

A group of schoolchildren from St Gregory's Catholic Primary School, where he coached, carried his number 23 jersey onto the pitch, ahead of it being retired.

A minute silence was observed ahead of kick-off and play was then paused in the 23rd minute for a moment's applause.

Stratford Town has also launched a community fund, named Cody 23. It will help support young people to gain qualifications in football coaching and refereeing.

Two men, Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, have been charged with Cody's murder. They will stand trial in July.

The Crane nightclub has has its licence permanently suspended.
