Tributes have been paid to a Solihull man who died in an Ironman race in Ireland on Sunday.
Newly-engaged Brendan Wall was one of two men who died after getting into difficulty in the swimming segment of the event.
The 44-year-old was originally from Meath in Ireland but was living in Solihull.
It has since emerged that organisers of the Ironman competition were advised not to proceed with the event, due to adverse weather conditions.
In a death notice posted online it reads: "Tragically while competing in Ironman 70.3 Cork. Deeply regretted by his loving Fiance Tina, Parents Oliver and Gertrude (nee Lynch), brothers Martin and Joe, sister Maria (O'Connor), sisters-in-law, Denise and Sinead, brother-in-law, Paddy,"
Ivan Chittendon, from Toronto, Canada, also died in a tragic medical emergency during the swimming event.
An investigation is already underway into the deaths, with Triathlon Ireland adding that it would inappropriate to comment further at this time.
It did express its condolences to the men's families and friends, describing their loss as "devastating".
