Teen shot as crowd gathered to pay respects to Keon Lincoln one year since murder
The 17-year-old was injured in broad daylight at Handsworth Cemetery
West Midlands Police are appealing for information after a teenager was injured at Handsworth cemetery yesterday afternoon, as a crowd gathered to pay tribute to Keon Lincoln on the first anniversary of his murder.
Officers were called to the cemetery just after 3pm and the 17-year-old was taken to hospital, with a gunshot injury to his foot. His injury isn’t thought to be serious.
Police have been speaking to witnesses and looking for forensic evidence to establish what happened, but they're appealing for anyone who saw anything, had any information and hasn't already spoken to them to get in touch as soon as possible.
Detective Sergeant McCullogh, from our force CID, said: “This is a shocking thing to happen in broad daylight and while people were paying their respects after the tragic loss of Keon last year.
“There remains so much sadness following his death. Guns have no place on our streets, they cause misery and harm and we do not want to see more people injured or killed because of them.
“I’d encourage anyone who has any information to contact us – anonymously if you prefer – because as we’ve seen here, and when Keon was murdered, carrying weapons is dangerous and causes heartbreak.”
