Plans for statue to celebrate Sky Blue legends
A fundraising appeal has been launched for a statue of Coventry City legends George Curtis and John Sillett.
Proposals are in place to honour the management team who famously guided Coventry City to their FA Cup victory in 1987.
Fundraising efforts are already underway for the statue, which will be located facing Jimmy Hill Way near the South Entrance of the Coventry Building Society Arena.
So far, over £135,000 has been raised by donors, and now supporters and the wider public are being encouraged to donate towards the project.
Members of both families, the 1987 squad, supporters, and a committee are looking for an additional £87,000 towards the monument, which is likely to be completed later next year.
Those that donate £500 or more will get their names engraved on the statue.
David Bennett, one of the goal scorers in the 1987 cup final, says its important the duo get the recognition they truly deserve.
Reliving the event, Mr Bennett said: "When you've got 250,000 people welcoming you back on a Sunday afternoon, you know that the whole city is together. And the way George and John projected themselves and the players, it was a magnificent occasion.
"To highlight George and John being at the club for so long. Youth manager, working behind the scenes, becoming manager and winning one of the biggest cups in the world – you’ve got to pay them tribute."
Supporters can now donate online.
