People are being told to avoid part of the M6 after a serious incident overnight.
West Midlands Police say a man's died after falling from a bridge at junction seven between Birmingham and Walsall.
Officers were called at 1.23am to the southbound carriageway which is now closed.
A statement from police reads; Officers from the Central Motorway Patrol Group along with staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Highways England were immediately sent to the site. Sadly the man died at the location.
We’re doing everything we can to identify him so that we can share the awful news with his family.
The southbound carriageway of the M6 is closed at junction 7. This is known as the Scott Arms junction.
The A34 from Walsall to the Scott Arms junction is also closed.
Both will be reopened as soon as possible but we estimate that the carriageway will be closed until 8am at the earliest.
West Midlands Police say if anyone has any information that might be helpful to call them on 101 quoting reference number 162-180322.
