Redditch bar shut down after violent disorder and weapons found
The Warwick Bar in Ipsley Street has lost its licence.
A nightclub in Redditch that plagued the community with anti-social behaviour and violent disorder has been shut down.
The Warwick Bar in Ipsley Street had its licence revoked following an application by West Mercia Police.
In the past 12 months, the venue has been subject to a number of complaints from nearby residents.
In December last year, a three month closure order was granted after a night of violent disorder on Saturday 3 December. During the incident a firearm was discharged.
The licensing hearing was told staff members had been arming themselves with weapons, in one incident a group were attacked by door staff with a large chain.
Concerns had also been raised around drug taking at the venue and during a search of the premises a meat cleaver, stanley knife, samurai sword and machete were seized.
The hearing found the running of the premises showed a blatant disregard for the safety of staff, patrons and members of the public.
Local Safer Neighbourhood Inspector, Rich Field, said: “I’m pleased the licensing committee has accepted our application for a full closure of the premises.
“Residents living nearby have had to endure anti-social behaviour associated with the venue for a long time and last December were subject to a night of violent disorder.
“We hope this result will provide some respite and improve the quality of life for the local community.
“The local safer neighbourhood team is committed to making the area even safer and I hope this offers some reassurance of the steps we are taking.”
Three men have been charged with a number of offences in connection with the violent disorder on 3 December.
